Now eligible households can avail a great point of sale discount on the cost of solar battery for their properties. While the price of the batteries is already coming down from what it was before, the new Victorian government battery rebate is making them even more affordable.
What is solar battery rebate by VIC government
In an attempt to encourage battery up take for Solar installations, the Victorian Solar Homes Programme is providing eligible households a solar battery rebate of $4,174 which can be deducted from the cost of your solar system installation.
There are no interest-free loans available for solar batteries and any amount outstanding over $4,174 needs to be paid out of the pocket by the property owner.
The rebate is available only on Solar Victoria’s approved solar batteries with a minimum whole system warranty of 5 years and performance warranty of 7 years.
What is the current solar battery rebate and how much can I rebate.
The Victorian Government Battery rebate will hold their current value of $4,174 until 30, June 2021.
These rebates are available across all Victorian postal codes, helping a typical household save up to $640 a year
Am I eligible for Victorian solar battery rebate
The Victorian government battery rebates come with an eligibility criterion to ensure only deserving households benefit from the savings as a result of the discounts available on solar batteries.
These include the following:
- The property for which you are applying for a rebate on solar battery must already have a solar PV system installed with a capacity of no less than 5kW.
- You have to show a pre-approval obtained by Distributed Network Service Provider (DNSP). This will ensure that your battery shall be connected safely to the grid.
- The battery you choose must be approved by Solar Victoria.
- Your solar PV system must not already have a solar battery installed.
- You must demonstrate proof of owning or occupying the property for which the battery rebate is being availed.
- Existing property value should not be more than $3 million, the household income should not exceed $180,000 per year and the property should not have already benefited from the Solar Homes Program.
- Solar battery connected to the grid provides great value to households. This is demonstrated through battery trials conducted by your DNSP. You need to agree to participate in such trials.

Step 4
Once the installation has been completed, you will have to make payment for the amount quoted to you less the rebate amount and the loan (in case that is applicable).
The rest will be taken care of by the Solar Homes Program.
